Why Congo? Preventing the Next Pandemic

The Congo is the birthplace of many of the world’s most dangerous infectious diseases. HIV, Ebola, Marburg and Monkeypox all originated in the remote jungle rainforests of central Africa. But because the region so inaccessible, it can take months to investigate new outbreaks. By then, a single infection can lead to an epidemic, putting millions of people at risk.

Through targeted initiatives aimed at preparing leaders in the Congolese research community, Congo BioMed seeks to arm tomorrow’s Congolese health leaders, not with the weapons of Congo’s troubled past, but with the knowledge and resources necessary for meaningful change in the future.
